Mira's Bat Mitzvah - Delicious Lemonade from Lemons

Mira's Bat Mitzvah date was selected years ago. Her Jewish learning and preparation also began years ago. Her mother's obsessive planning began months ago. And then a worldwide pandemic happened. No one was traveling. No one was going to synagogue. And folks were staying at home. While most families chose to postpone their celebrations, the Cohans got a Torah inside their house and said "Let's do this!" Sandi found ways for family and friends to celebrate the outstanding occasion and help us embrace the joyous moment with Mira as much as we could.

On Friday afternoon, we had a mani/pedi party ALMOST just like we would have in other circumstances.

On Friday night, we had a private service for Mira's friends and family via Zoom. Mira led with poise and grace, while proud fans around the country watched on.

On the first night of Passover this year, we had a 1st night seder on Zoom, and Team Cohan came dressed to impress...in costume. In their honor, we were ready for Mira's Friday night service in style.

On Saturday morning, Mira was set to officially became a Bat Mitzvah - daughter of the commandments. As sad as we were to not be watching her in person, we were so grateful for this opportunity to support her virtually, watch the fruits of endless labor pay off, and share in this momentous simcha together.

Team Cohen waited patiently for Mira's time to shine. (Note the official Bat Mitzvah kippot that Sandi arranged for family around the country to wear.)

This is what Mira's Bat Mitzvah looked like from where we were sitting, quite a unique experience and a Bat Mitzvah none of us will soon forget.

This guy's attention to the service didn't last too long, but it turns out, Spencer still had the cousin-of-honor on his mind.

(Boredom struck the 5.5 year old...)

Mira did an outstanding job! She was beautifully prepared, calm and collected, knowledgeable, and made her whole community so proud.

These supportive cousins really did feel like they were "with" Mira. We prepared similar menus and treats. We sang along with her. Kudos to Aunt Sandi for working so hard behind the scenes to make this happen.

Mira's amazing job leading services and reading Torah and Haftorah certainly inspired our art that afternoon. We love you, Mira! Mazel Tov!!!

And last, but not least, ALL of Mira's maternal cousins - even 1-day-old Micah - joined on Zoom again later in the week for a special Cousins Zoom Birthday Party.
