Being the first to arrive at Aunt Sandi's house, we decide to get in the rodeo spirit! |
Mira comes home from school, and the fun continues. |
Gabi rides a scooter with Zayde's assistance. That's definitely a first for her! |
It's Friday night- candles burning bright; I'm so glad that Shabbat is here! |
Why give the kid the toys when he can just chew on the basket? | Guess this cutie needs to rest up for the big day coming tomorrow, butt up! |
Rodeo day arrives! It's a beautiful day in Houston, and everyone is dressed and ready to go! (Note Gabi's handmade shirt, sewn for her birthday by Aunt Sandi.)
cousins! |
girls in pigtails |
(didn't want to leave Jacob out!) |
One of the most exciting parts of the day was also the first thing we did. Jacob kept telling us that there was "A REAL LIVE ACTUAL FARM at the Rodeo!!!" It actually was a very cool interactive experience for the kiddos.
Each kid gets a basket for her farm goodies. | Gabi picks some tomatoes to bring to market. | cousins at the farm |
farm girl | Ethan decides to eat his carrot instead of bring it to market. |
I'm sure this is what real farmers do with their harvested corn. |
After a successful morning of vegetable harvesting, egg collecting, cow milking, and sheep shearing, Gabi heads to the market to sell her crops. |
Next, we head to the petting zoo where these animals were pretty comfortable with their human friends.
Not just fun and games: adults too have to watch their backs! Nana gets bullied by hungry animals. |
Aunt Sandi also has won the attention of the llamas. (And for the record, my shirt was chewed on by a deer who left its cud on me for the rest of the day...ewwwww) |
Off to pig races where Aunt Debbie obnoxiously secured a spot to represent our section with the orange flag to cheer on the orange pig. We didn't win, but we had fun.
As is tradition, we head to chill by our "friend" (cardboard cowgirl cutout) who is reliably waiting for us EVERY year by the "Rodeo Houston" barrel. As is tradition, we eat humongous cinnamon buns, and as is tradition, we take pictures with our friend. Why break tradition?
Jacob, Gabi, and Aunt Syssa play. | big cousin Jacob with Ethan | Nana and Gabi |
Nana and Zayde with 3 of their grandchildren (and of course the friend in the background) |
the whole group |
Zayde and biggest cousin Mira | Aunt Syssa and Uncle Craig |
Team Cohen at our first 4-person-family Rodeo (you can tell in the other pictures that Ethan wasn't so terribly harmed by this experience.) |
|
Ethan hangs out with Aunt Syssa and Nana when silly Jacob wants to join in the fun. |
1 huge cinnamon bun per person? Why not? Ethan will be happier next year when he may be allowed to actually taste the sugary goodness.
Sandi helps Mike with his first ever taste of "Rodeo cinnamon buns." | Zayde with Team Gilden |
We loved visiting the bunny exhibit especially the end when we got to pet some soft ones!
It's the end of the day, and they've all gone mad and are now letting the infant at the popcorn... | Aunt Debbie with Mira and Gabi on the train heading back to Aunt Sandi's house. |
The next morning, everyone is well-rested and ready for more family fun!
Sandi snuggles with Mira, Jacob, and Gabi. |
We head to a playground by Aunt Sandi's house...and monopolized all of the equipment apparently.
Playing in the front yard enjoying the lovely afternoon before dinner.
A family who eats ice cream together is definitely one who stays together.
either at Chocolate Bar | or if we make it at home ourselves! |
On our last day together, we head to the Houston Zoo for more fun.
Gabi's so exhausted by the end of the great trip that she finds some pretty unusual places to rest.
