A Year in Review

Same baby. Same blanket. Growing hair. Growing smile. Exploding with beauty! What a great year it's been.

12 Months Old

Who knows what the future of blogging looks like, but for now, you and fellow fans/stalkers get one more monthly post. (Hard to believe, I know, since there have been 85 other birthday-related posts.)

Beautiful 12-month-old Gabriella Daphna is more charming than ever. She smiles and waves at friends and strangers without being prompted. She says "Uh Oh!" like a cutie and points at things she wants you to notice. She's a social butterfly who amazes us day in and day out.

At her 12 month well-check, she measured in at 20 lbs 12 oz (63rd percentile!) and 29.75" (70th percentile)! Girl is growing well! The most amazing accomplishment of the month is her gross motor achievement. Gabi is a scooting master on her belly. A month ago, she was practically still immobile, and now she can go anywhere and everywhere her little heart wants to, and she is FAST! The strategy is neither pretty nor efficient, but she's on the move! We continue to work with Early Childhood Intervention, and they are convinced she'll be cruising, if not pretty close to walking, by 15 months...Wow.

Highlighting some great motor accomplishments:
Here she was at the beginning of the month where it took her 3 minutes to get where she wanted to go. (But we were still SUPER proud!)
Towards the end of the month, she can go where she wants to go, and she can get there fast!

This girl goes from sitting to her knees to standing, with no help!

Here are some other great pictures and videos captured this month:

This is what happens when you give your phone to your baby on self-facing camera mode. You end up with baby selfies and a baby selfie video, but it's still pretty cute!

Baby BFF Nora spends the day with us when her usual caretaker is sick. We had a great day together!

This is what happens when the babies figure out how to spill the container of cheerios on the floor at a playdate. We play 52 Cheerio Pick Up!

Being so close to 12 months, Gabi shows off her skills with her new "18 month" sippy cup. Go girl!
Gabi shows off some great skills with the new sippy cup, "Uh Oh!," and waving Bye Bye!
Here, Gabi shows her other skill of sharing water.

hanging out with Daddy in Gigi's tent

Gabi wakes up on the morning of her REAL birthday to lots of cards that her family has sent her. She loves them!

We will love every 28th that greets us from now on, but I have no intention of fighting through forced pictures after this one. Happy 1 year to Gabriella Daphna on January 28, 2014, and may the memory of these monthly blanket pictures be for a blessing!

Uncle Craig comes over to help us close a great first birthday celebration. Before our celebratory dinner, he plays with the birthday girl in Gigi's tent.

Birthday PARTY

Gabi was turning 1, which many of her baby friends also were...except her mother just may have been the craziest of them all. We invited a TON of babies over to strip down and have a PAINT PARTY...just like our practice one on Sunday! Since I was slightly overwhelmed at the amazing 15 babies who RSVPed yes, the weather sent us an ice storm that (unfortunately) kept most babies at their homes. We ended up with a very intimate gathering of just a few very messy and colorfully decorated babies.

Gabi thought Allison needed
help getting paint on her.
Having done this paint party thing before, Gabi is quite the expert:

Having missed Sunday's fun, Daddy was very glad to join Gabi on her real birthday to share in this party's excitement!

Gabi and her friend Amelia definitely won the awards for most colorful and most endurance in the paint. In the end though, I am proud to report that my child stayed the longest and certainly got the messiest!

Once all the babies are cleaned up, we go upstairs for some play time. Once the babies realize I have snacks, they sit nicely waiting for their turn...Then, there's Gabi who just dives right in...
