Fast forward through a volunteer orientation and training, Gabi and I started visiting the ranch weekly while her brothers are in Sunday shul school. There are many tasks that are limited to volunteers age 14 and up, but we get to help with several barn upkeep tasks including refreshing hay nets, mucking out stalls, and - our favorite activity - grooming the equine friends. We've been having a great time so far!

Healing with Horses
After Gabi announced that she wanted to take horseback riding lessons, I went on a journey of internet exploration, ultimately discovering Healing with Horses, a nonprofit ranch in Manor, TX that provides multiple equine-assisted services for people experiencing various challenges. I immediately signed Gabi up for the year-long waiting list and then discovered that they would allow her to volunteer at the ranch as often as we want.
