Treepocalypse

Austin got an ice storm. Austin got an ice storm that froze the trees with such thick ice that limbs, branches, and entire trunks couldn't sustain the weight. Austin had an ice storm that devastated a HUGE amount of trees in the area, especially older ones in our neighborhood. Austin got an ice storm that experienced breaking branches and falling ice all around us at all hours, us never knowing if the eerie, terrifying sound would fall on your roof or that of a neighbor. Austin got an ice storm that closed schools for a week, shut off power, and caused weeks and months worth of work to clean up the sad sad tree parts all over yards, sidewalks, and streets. It would have been pretty if it wasn't so apocalyptic and sad.

The "good" news is that our children will remember the power outage as 'that time we had a cousins sleepover and read books by flashlight.'

Scenes around the neighborhood a week later:

All houses were busy building branch barricades in front of
their houses, trying to clear their yards from what had fallen.

And they just kept falling. 😥 Crews were trying
to clear streets as fast as possible.
