May 2021

14 months later, we finally sent the last of the little ones back to socializing with same age peers in a licensed preschool facility. Big Spenceman was dropped off calmly, and I could see the smile through the mask as I walked away.

And also for the first time in 14 months, the adults found time and space without children. So we celebrated. Alone. With alcohol.

Joey and Spencer currently attend different classes in the same half-day preschool. Team Cohen's bus service picks them up after lunch each day and brings them home for afternoon rest. Essentially, it's TCDC Extended Care, and it's pretty cute.

Lest you were worried - despite no longer spending 5 hours daily together, the Spencer-Shayna love is as strong as ever.

Getting rid of the children for a few hours each day allowed me to breathe and focus and prioritize and concentrate, and do so calmly in quiet. It also allowed me time to take daily morning Reggie walks and attend Aunt Syssa's hair donation party.

Fun with food this month:

Food coloring was used this month more often than it likely should have...

Packing up the entire team to go to weekly puppy training sessions, requires a bit of coaxing and bribing, so donuts are becoming a common thing. But what happens when they're "hot, fresh, now" and they throw donuts at you just for walking in the store? You gotta sit down and eat them! (And then bring some home for the other people still waiting.)

In animal updates - poor Rona doesn't always get autonomy on where her body goes.

Poor Reggie doesn't always get the full space on her bed.

Anyone who has ever seen the movie 50 First Dates understands that you can manipulate your memories from the records you keep. The question (for me) becomes - which memories do I want to hold on to? I include some of these memories, hoping I look back on them with a lighthearted eyeroll, reminiscing about "those days"...Maybe??? Which of the following moments would you share?

...Or maybe I share the picture in hopes
someone else will share my misery??

And the rest of the time, it's these moments we try to focus on:

Spenceman wanted lots of pictures with his puppy pal, Reggie.

A Rainy, Slimy Day

Ethan has been BEGGING to make slime. After stalling him for a while, I told him that I would buy the materials. After procrastinating for a while, I finally bought all the materials. It then rained in Austin for quite a while, so then we had the perfect morning for slime. And surprise surprise, Gildens walked in the door and slipped right into the messy fun.

With materials out, patient clients wait for further instructions.

The faces of happy customers:

What could go wrong?

By the time Micah showed up after his morning nap, he wasn't quite sure what was happening. But big cuz Ethan was there to show him the style.

And then, of course, there are these 2 children. Best friends since birth; Cutest playmates alive; Toddlers in their own little impenetrable bubble...
