Misc. August 2024

In August, Gabi returned, Ethan returned; we went on vacation, started (middle!) school, said goodbye to a beloved fur family member, celebrated a half birthday, started the 41st trip around Jon's sun, and tried to keep up with everything in between.

Right at the beginning of August, we had one king of the castle.

We enjoyed "Spesh Theater Friday!" with Spencer's favorite bud at the end of a 2 theater camp week. Aunt Debbie watched Shay dance and sing to Little Mermaid Hits, and CohGils watched Spenceman star as the father of Augustus Gloop in Willy Wonka.

After quite a lot of pretend sweets from Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, we celebrated our performance successes with some real treats.

Gabi came back from a successful second week at overnight camp.

Ethan returned home, and we were on the road to the beach within 24 hours. We were happy to all be reunited.

Devastatingly, we said goodbye to our beloved Maggie. Mommy and Daddy welcomed Maggie into the family over 17 years ago when we first got married. She has lived in 3 states, 4 homes, and put up with almost a dozen other 4-leggeds between other felines, a canine, and some rodents (in addition to the human siblings). She was the sweetest baby girl who never gave up despite so many physical challenges towards the end of her life. Even in the last couple of years when she sounded and looked horrible through her raspy breathing and bleeding face tumors, she insisted on visiting and keeping me company at work most days. She slept under the covers right against my legs for several years, whether or not Daddy wanted her there. We shed many many tears as we said good-bye, and we will miss her very much.

Which then left us with these rascals:

Spencer turned 7.5 this month, and what's turning 7.5 without coffee cake?

This tween started middle school this month and did really well with the transition!

Spesh!

Gildens shared their art project with us.

And in conclusion:

Jon Be 40

Cohen Birthday Week 2024 kicked off in high fashion with our patriarch turning 40. Jon's birthday was on a Saturday, so we had a full day of togetherly goodness.

In his honor, the kids and I painted and decorated 40 rocks to brighten up our front yard, just like Daddy brightens up our house and family.

Inside, during breakfast, Jon was gifted another surprise in the form of a "decision coin" to give him a 50/50 chance at getting to have some authority around the house. 😁

Jon's Team Cohen Birthday Party took us on a walking Scavenger Hunt of downtown Austin.

At some hot and tired o'clock, we walked past a donut shop and decided it was time to call quits on a fun birthday party.

In the afternoon, Team Gilden joined us for the rest of the birthday celebrations.
