We arrived after the long drive in late afternoon, got settled a bit at the beach-house, and then went straight over to the sand and waves. We were staying a short 1.5 blocks away from the beach, so we could go back and forth easily. We were worried that staying as close to Pleasure Pier as we did would limit our ability to social distance, but we practically had the beach to ourselves!
Gabi, lover of sand and digging, didn't take long before coming up with her goal of "digging a really big hole." I decided to join in the adventure and took the opportunity to teach a science lesson of finding the water underneath the various layers and how the sand color changes, etc.
hole success |
Not only did we dig "a really big hole," we built a hold the size of 2 big boys! |
It wouldn't be considerate if we left the beach with the really big hole in the sand. So we did the only right thing to do - filled it back in.
The next morning, we were back in the sand before we even sat down for breakfast. (It's what we do on beach vacations.)
Fast forward through breakfast; it was not photo-worthy. Back to the beach! Ethan is a boy bound to the beach. He could have stayed in the water all day if we let him. And we pretty much let him.
Don't you worry about the other two. They did just fine.
Post nap special-Mommy-Ethan time:
Day 3 began, and Mommy and Gabi thought that we were going to the beach by ourselves for special time together. Which we did. And it was lovely.
Boys got FOMO and walked on over to join us.
Seagulls seem to LOVE junk sugar cereal (or any human junk food for that matter). It was unclear at first if they were eyeing the cereal or our petite son though...
After we were fairly certain that the seagulls weren't going to carry Spencer off to their nests for their next meal, we decided they were trustworthy babysitters. Date time!
Back to the house to regroup, eat more junk, and get ready to go back to the beach! |
Day 3 was another lovely day at the beach with great weather, good company, and splashtastic times!
This happened. |
So did this. |
Smiley close ups on everyone before going back to the house for lunch and rest.
We have explained to the kids that one of the neatest parts about visiting the beach is how different it is each day and even how much it can change at different times of the day. We were clearly experts on early morning and late morning beach adventures. What was it like at sunset? There was only one way to find out!
The next morning, Ethan and Mommy had special time. He specifically requested a non-beach walk.
The other 2 did just fine for themselves while we were gone. |
It was our fourth and final day at the beach. Another success!
It may have been our last full day, but our fun wasn't nearly over. First up, special Mommy-Spencer time in the afternoon.
On the last morning of Team Cohen Galveston Getaway 2019, we *had* to finish the ice cream so as not to let it go to waste. It was hilarious, of course, since it was before breakfast and in our pajamas. We recorded quite the hilarious video to commemorate the occasion. Apparently, the children remembered said occasion and insisted on recreating the "tradition." Who was I to refuse eating ice cream out of the container?
We had one more night in Galveston, and why waste it on a responsible bedtime? Back to the beach for sunset!
This is why we do this. This makes it worth everything. |
While exploring the rocks around the seawall, we found many interesting little animals, including this very neat crab friend. Daddy was brave enough to help us take a closer look.
Bye bye, Beach.
Day 5, and our planned time in Galveston had come to an end. Good thing, too, because all beaches were closed for the holiday weekend. That worked out for us!
On the road again!
