Virginia Beach

This year, Nana and Zayde rented a TEN bedroom house right on the shore of Virginia Beach! It was spacious, convenient, and filled with great company. Here's what went down during the 9 days of travel. (One would think that sand and water would limit the number of pictures taken. One would be wrong. Darn you, digital technology and my inability to be choosy.)

The party bus was packed and headed out of Austin!

On our way!

We headed to the beach bright and early on our first morning. Team Gilden and Nana/Zayde had already been at the beach house for a couple of days, so we joined them in the beach exploration. Gabi and Ethan were instantly comfortable in the water, running and jumping straight in.
didn't take long
Joey seems quite comfortable, too.

Spencer's first time at the beach was successful:

Shade break:

The next day was all about the boogie boards! (And forgive the "super vivid" setting I decided to go with on the camera that day...)

three at a time

Joey couldn't quite pull Aunt Syssa and baby cousin himself. He had to call in for back up.

After the beach each day, Gabi, Ethan, and Daddy rinsed off and then splashed in the pool before bath and lunch. Only one day, however, was Daddy dumb enough to break his back in the process.

By Thursday, Uncle Mitch, Aunt Mandy, and Noah/Sammy arrived!

Daddy was able to pull 3 heavy weights simultaneously.

Snack time was a highlight most days.

Even Spencer managed a few beach smiles.

I'm at the beach!

There may have been a lot of other grandchildren, but we got our fair share of Nana and Zayde love!

Apparently, Jon didn't learn the "don't throw heavy kids up in the air" lesson from the day before.

Sammy and Gabi were incredibly playful and cute together in the beach most days.

Spencer also splashed in his own pool daily after the beach.

Early the next morning, I enjoyed a lovely beach walk with Joey and Gabi!

Uncle Mitch took care of 5 kids as they built a mote and castle. Where were the rest of the adults?

Meanwhile, back at the ranch:

Aunt Sandi, Mira, and Jacob arrived on Friday afternoon and with all 17 (!) family members together, we celebrated Sammy and Ethan's upcoming birthdays with an ice cream party!

Scenes from around the house:

What do you think they're talking about?

the beach house way to drink milk

probably shouldn't ask

Aunt Debbie entertains 6 kids while they help make punch.

Apparently, no one taught my kids not to play with their food.

For the following pictures, let's imagine the goal is "Get Spencer the f*** to sleep." Bonus points awarded for crib sleeping. It was certainly a group effort.

Daddy's awake; Spencer's awake (fail)

Zayde's awake; Spencer's asleep

Aunt Sandi's asleep; Spencer's asleep

Jacob's asleep; Spencer's awake (major fail)

Aunt Sandi may have won the game.

AHHHHH, Finally!

It was so wonderful having loving family to help play with our babies!

Who doesn't love special aunt time?

That means these lovebirds SOMETIMES had their hands free!

The cousins got along beautifully playing and digging in the sand:

Of course, we enjoyed many special Team Cohen moments too.

Ethan spent much of his time running aimlessly.

One afternoon, we walked to the local fire station and got a personal tour of one of the firetrucks. It was a fantastic field trip!

Our last day at the beach arrived, so we had to enjoy it to its fullest. Thanks to Aunt Sandi for capturing these pictures from the water!

Making the most out of our last day of vacation:

My super happy beach babies from smallest to biggest:

E-man:

another day, another planless run
Gabi's ocean dance

The Gabsters:

(Fill in the blank.) Aunt Sandi is so _________ that she lets the children bury her in the sand each year.

He's just too cute. What do you do?

We got 90% of the solar eclipse!

Aunt Mandy and Gabi enjoy a sweet moment at sunset.

How do you entertain everyone on the last afternoon together when we're running out of fun things to do?
A) ice cream

B) electronics

Time to head home:
It's like they've never seen moving sidewalks before...
Oh wait, maybe they haven't...?
