Goodbye, Tonsils!

Anyone who has spent a lot of time with Gabi with a lot of pasta may know her beautiful habit of gagging and vomiting...She gets too much caught in her throat, and it comes back up. One would think I'd have gotten used to being vomited on by now, but nope. When we talked to a pediatric ENT, it turns out that her tonsils were SOOO big, they're considered "kissing tonsils," and even though she had never had strep throat or sleep apnea, 5% of the time tonsils (and adenoids) need to come out for Gabi's reasons. (Ironically, she got strep twice in the month between the first appointment and the surgery, just for fun.)

She showed up to the surgery center bright and early, full of smiles.

One last family snuggle/selfie before shipping her off to the magic gas:

The surgery itself went beautifully and smoothly, but Gabi woke up pretty sad, angry, and in pain. I had to wrestle with a screaming 3-year-old to keep her IV in her hand. Soon enough, she calmed down, we got some liquids in her, and we found a wagon and a playroom!

We got a care package from Grandma and Grandpa with a 'Get Well' balloon and kitty. No amount of bed friends were too many for this patient.

We found creative ways to pass the time.

We got some afternoon visitors to help distract the recovering patient. Thank goodness for a second wagon.

Gabi shows Ethan the way we do things around here.

Ethan is a quick learner.

Baby bestie Nora shows up with sweet gifts!

Gabi and Nora grow sea animal capsules in water and wait
to see what creature it will become.  Then, they work
together to water the violet plant that Nora brought to
brighten up our room.

The 2 weeks after surgery proved to be not so fun.  She was in a lot of pain throughout most of the days. Gabi developed quite the aversion to taking medicine every 3 hours, spitting a ton of it on me. Her throat hurt too much to sleep restfully. We played musical beds. She refused to let Daddy help her with ANYTHING. She wouldn't take any of the special treats that count towards the minimal liquid intake (i.e. popsicles, ice cream, frozen yogurt...) Joy of joys...

my poor baby

WELL - someone has to eat those popsicles -
