The birth of any baby is a momentous experience. It brings many changes into the life of any family, and this baby is a most welcomed addition into our home and our family. Whether through birth or adoption, welcoming a child into a family and a home is cause for great celebration. We have been blessed now with 2 beautiful children who came to us in special, unique, and different ways. Our hopes, dreams, and wishes for each of our children are that they remain special, unique, and different throughout their lives.
We have now had 2 hospital experiences for our 2 children, and they have been incredibly different from each other, just as the children will be. I started having (what I considered) serious contractions on Tuesday, September 2nd. By Wednesday night, they were consistently 5-7 minutes apart, lasting about 40 seconds each (and I wasn't in the mood to spend another sleepless night contracting at home), so when Jon came home at 11:30 from work, we gathered our stuff together and headed to the hospital. Of course, knowing my luck, we landed in triage where we had to "prove our labor" and the contractions slowed to 20 minutes apart. Needless to say - 3 hours later - we hadn't proven anything (except for exhaustion, discomfort, and pain) and were sent home at 3:30 a.m. to "get some rest."
By 9 a.m. the next morning (Thursday, September 4), our Dr.'s office agreed I was laboring and admitted us to the hospital. Unfortunately, my body or the baby (or both) didn't want to cooperate and despite the epidural and high high doses of pitocin, little baby boy wasn't coming on his own. By 9 p.m. that night, our Dr. decided that it was time for C-section, and at 9:41 out came Ethan Robert Cohen, born weighing 8 lbs 13 oz and 20.75 inches long. That hadn't been our original birth plan, but Jon and I should have known better than to have a "plan" for what should happen with our growing family. Nevertheless, our beautiful baby boy was born as healthy and perfect as could be.

The next day, new big sister Gabi comes to the hospital to meet her brand new baby brother. She took to him immediately, identifying all his body parts and giving him lots of kisses.
In addition to special big sister Gabi, we had some other special visitors join us at the hospital to greet Ethan.

Sunday arrives, and we have a little more fun before we're kicked out of (/get to leave?) the hospital.
