March 2021

Last month's blog post started with a puppy focus, and we'll do the same this month as well. Unfortunately, unintelligent Reggie ate something and got very very uncomfortable. After we paid for bloodwork and x rays, we decided to do an exploratory surgery. All they found at that point was a very very angry tummy that had likely already passed the culprit. Nevertheless, we had a pitiful puppy for quite some time this month.

With some extra love and TLC, big girl was back to bouncing around soon enough.

Our feline family found themselves quite squished this month when Nana's package deliveries continually filled up one of their favorite nap spots.

In SPECTACULAR news, both Team Cohen adults received our first COVID-19 vaccinations!

Ethan Robert was excited to turn 6.5 this month. We made cookies and celebrated with our favorite TCDC buddies.

March officially marks one year of being almost exclusively home with each other with almost no other child care. Big, deep breaths.

"Oh lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary,
Pure and holy, tried and true.
And in thanksgiving, I'll be a living santuary for you."

We returned to playgrounds this month!

TCPC (And Other March TCDC Fun)

This month, we temporarily changed our school program name to "Team Cohen Passover Camp" when we engaged in all sorts of Passover prep - from crafts to songs to dances and more!

First, we had to build the pieces of our new Passover placemats. We wrote about the importance of freedom, colored paper matzah, and created paper seder plates.

We spent a lot of time reading Passover stories, learning the history, and learning about the customs of the seder. All of this inspired our conversation and creativity.

Ethan drew Moses with split sea,
staff in hand, demanding "Let my people go!"

Gabi drew baby Moses in basket and "Red Sea."

Joey - seder plate and grape juice

Spencer - big Moses and baby Moses

Shayna - grape juice

I had to get in on the fun too with my own chalk drawing of a seder plate.

Another day, we put the finishing touches on our placemats, gluing all the pieces together and labeling the components of the seder plate.

Passover prep continued with decorating sheets for grape juice cups and pillow cases for our comfortable reclining purposes.

Passover Camp wouldn't be complete without homemade matzah! We took on the 18-minute-challenge knowing that traditional matzah has to be made in less than 18 minutes or else it is considered chametz or leavened food, citing sources that fermentation takes place within 18 minutes after the exposure of the grain to moisture.

We rolled the dough flat and poked holes with forks to prevent it from rising.

YUMMY homemade matzah

We had the matzot out of the oven and in our mouths in well under 18 minutes with time to spare! Our appetite for matzah is ready to go!

We prepared for Passover with crafts and foods, of course, but singing and dancing were necessary as well!

TCPC took over this month yes, and we also enjoyed springtime fun in other ways as well. Grandma and Grandpa sent us wooden bird feeders to paint to help celebrate warmer weather.

Bittersweet announcement: Team Cohen admin has made the decision to send our elementary scholars in person starting early April. This has been quite a year having everyone at home ALL the time and quite an adventurous 7 months caring for 5 kiddos. They may never remember this strange moment in history, but we will and we'll remember it as surviving and looking good doing it. These kids had no idea how challenging this has been for the adult humans who are stretched far too thin, and I'm proud that they've enjoyed smiles, laughs, and so much sweet, special, irreplaceable cousin bonding time.
